Set in 1940s Palestine, Samantha and her husband Dov, both of American descent, have immigrated due to their Zionist convictions. Dov is a communist and architect. He dedicates his life and energy to building the country, neglecting his wife who does all she can to help. Samantha’s brother, a capitalist, also leaves the U.S. for Palestine where he hopes to make a fortune buying land from Arabs.
